Health Benefits of Weight Training

People lift weights for various reasons. Some lift weights to build strength and endurance, improve their health, while others just want to look good. Whatever the reason, the health benefits of this exercise are just overwhelming. There are two basic types of weight lifting that produce different results. These principles become important for individuals who are training for certain sports. Exercisers who want to develop strength may train with heavy weights with fewer repetitions. On the other hand, individuals who want to develop muscle endurance may use light weights and more repetitions. Whatever the effect, heavy and light weight training may bring health benefits to anyone who engages in it.

Medical studies show that light weight training may reduce the development of osteoporosis, an ailment that may cause brittle bones. This is possible because strength training may increase bone mass and decrease the possibility of osteoporosis. Lifting weights may also improve one's balance and range of motion, help prevent exercise-related injuries, and help lose weight and keep them off.

Other health benefits of light weight training may include the following:

Develop strong bones. Strength training increases bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

Control your body fat. As you lose muscle, your body burns calories less efficiently — which can result in weight gain. The more toned your muscles, the easier it is to control your weight.

Reduce your risk of injury. Building muscle protects your joints from injury. It also helps you maintain flexibility and balance — and remain physically independent as you age.

Boost your stamina. As you grow stronger, you won't fatigue as easily.

Improve your sense of well-being. Circuit training can boost your self-confidence, improve your body image and reduce the risk of depression because it promotes the excretion of hormones called endorphins. Many professionals call this effect the “runner's high.”

Get a better night's sleep. People who strength train regularly are less likely to struggle with insomnia.

Injuries that may be developed from weight lifting are inevitable. These injuries can be treated with rest, medication, and physical therapy. One popular medication that is used to alleviate pain caused by injuries is Tramadol, a synthetic pain reliever that has gained the approval of many doctors across the United States. It works by binding the receptors of the brain which are responsible for transmitting painful sensations throughout the body. Several medical studies show that this medication has a low abuse rate compared to other pain relievers. In addition, Tramadol side effects are milder compared to other pain relieving drugs out in the market. These side effects may include nausea, constipation, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and vomiting. Individuals should consult their doctors before taking this medicine. Though Tramadol side effects are mild and bearable, may not be used by individuals with certain health conditions and medical history. This drug may also interact with other drugs which may lead to development of more unwanted side effects.

Before engaging in fitness programs weight training, individuals who want to improve their health are encouraged to seek the advice of doctors and other health specialists. They may devise an exercise program and diet that are appropriate for one's health needs. Understanding weight training of physical activities may lead to improved overall health and well-being.

If you struggle with your weight, you might feel that losing weight and being healthy takes only a few months of strict diet and exercise. Though dieting can bring short-term results, the only true way to maintain your weight for the long term and be healthier is to improve your daily diet. These tips provide simple ways to do this along with some types of health products that can enhance your weight loss efforts.

First: Know Where You Stand

Before you get started, realize there's a need and where you stand with your weight and health. Do you need to lose X amount of pounds? Do you want to tone your body? Get a weight scale and/or measuring tape. Weigh yourself and write down your starting weight. Use the tape measure to measure in inches around your waist, upper arm, thigh, and neck. Taking measurements will help you know if you're losing inches even if you haven't lost any pounds yet. Weigh or take measurements only once a week so you won't become too anxious about daily fluctuations.

Second: Begin Incorporating Healthier Foods

Your daily diet should consist of a healthy portion of fruits and vegetables along with moderate portions from the other food groups including bread, meat, and dairy products. Many dieticians recommend at least five fruits and vegetables per day. These can easily be added to your diet by substituting a fruit or two for desert or a mid-afternoon snack, and by always cooking a couple of vegetables along with your meat and bread at lunch and dinner. Breakfast is a great time to fit in cereal and milk or eggs, grits, and cheese along with toast.

The great thing is these are foods that are easily accessible at any grocery without spending a fortune on high-priced diet foods and pre-packaged foods. During summer months, frequent a local produce stand for fresh fruits and vegetables.

If you eat out often, choose restaurants that serve vegetables with your meat, and opt for at least one green leafy vegetable each time you dine out. Only, be sure to watch portion sizes at restaurants. Some restaurants will give you double the amount you actually need!

The benefits of fruits and vegetables are remarkable. Studies show that these foods contain the vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy life and successful weight management. They enhance both women's health and men's health without the harmful side effects of many diet pills or strict, unhealthy dieting. They are also filled with antioxidants and fibers to help your body's immune and digestive systems.

Third: Enhance Your Diet with Nutritional Supplements

Even when eating healthier, this doesn't mean you can't benefit from nutritional supplements. Nutritional supplements can help boost your weight loss naturally while promoting better help. They can boost your immune system and help you get all the needed vitamins, minerals, and herbs for your daily diet. Be mindful that nutritional supplements are not meant to replace healthy eating or certain meals of the day. They are meant to add to the benefits of a healthy diet.

The types of nutritional supplements and health products to look for are those that are natural and/or those that meet your specific supplement needs. There are a number of health products on the market for multi-vitamin needs or to enhance weight loss, sleep, digestion, and the immune system. Some companies (such as Unicity's Bios Life) offer a variety of health products to meet individual needs. The health products are often available in the form of a pill or capsule, nutritional shakes, or health drinks.

These methods may seem simple, but adding them to your daily diet can be difficult if you're always on the go. Try adding one healthy food at a time or substituting one meal or snack at a time with healthier choices. Gradually increase your fruit and vegetable intake, and find ways to carry healthy foods with you when you're on the go. Hint: Sandwich bags can be lifesavers! Also, start out with a nutritional supplement. This can help you get on the right track as you add new foods to your diet.

Once you start noticing a difference in your health and weight, you'll be encouraged to continue eating healthy and to take your nutritional supplements. You'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel just by making these simple diet changes!

Women's Health and Weight Loss Tip #2: The Importance of Calcium in a Woman's Diet

Recently I published an article about the importance of exercise in fighting against the bone-brittling disease osteoporosis.

There are actually 3 primary factors that may put someone at risk for osteoporosis---women in particular:

  • lack of calcium
  • hormonal deficiency (estrogen in particular)
  • lack of physical activity

So in addition to exercise and hormonal factors, a woman's diet is extremely important in guarding off this very debilitating condition.

One of the reason's why we do not recommend most traditional diet plans and programs is because the over-restrictive eating guidelines often eliminate or seriously limit the consumption of some very necessary vitamins and minerals that keep the body healthy and strong.

You never want to get to a point where you are sacrificing health merely to lose weight. In fact, any weight loss program
worth half its salt will make sure that the recommendations made for your daily diet intake are well balanced and full of all the nutrients that you need.

The most important time to get an appropriate amount of calcium is between the ages of 14 and 24, when peak bone mass is obtained. Then after that bone continues to develop until about age 35 to 40, at which time the bone mass that a woman has will strongly determine how much at risk she may be
for bone fractures in her later years.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends that women intake 1,000 mg (1g) of calcium daily, and then increase their daily dosage to 1,500 mg (1.5g) post menopause.

Sadly, only an estimated 25% of women in any age group consume the recommended daily amount of calcium to guard against osteoporosis. And when they go on diets and weight loss programs, they tend to consume even less.

Lowfat dairy prodcuts such as milk (skim milk is a better option), yogurt, and cottage cheese are all excellent sources of dietary calcium. For those who are lactose intolerant or who wish to generally stay away from dairy products, non-dairy alternatives fortified with calcium will do as long as they contined the recommended daily allowance (RDA). The nondairy product Lactaid added to lowfat and nonfat milk may also work to help you meet your desired goal.

In your efforts to lose weight, make sure that the weight loss program that you use includes calcium-rich food choices. And if it does, you will need to add them yourself. No matter what weight loss program you are on or what other means you use to lose weight, here are some good ideas recommended by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) that you may add to your daily diet in order to get the amount of calcium you need while you lose the weight.

  • Prepare canned soup with skim milk instead of water
  • Add nonfat dry milk to soups, stews, and casseroles
  • Add grated lowfat cheese to salads, tacos, and pasta dishes
  • Eat yogurt as a snack, or use it to make low-calorie dressings
  • Choose calcium-rich desserts, suhc as lowfat cheese and fruit, frozen nonfat or lowfat yogurt, and puddings made with skim milk
  • Drink hot chocolate in the winter made with skim milk

The Health and Wealth Connection

I don't believe that anybody can have a true abundance in ANY area of their life without first feeling immensely confident in themselves. And the main determining factor in any person’s confidence is how they feel about their physical being (or their body); and the shape and health of a person's body is determined, to a large extent, by certain universal laws that absolutely must be followed each and every day.

Here's an example of just one of those laws...I once heard it said that nearly 70% of all the energy a person uses during the course of a single day (70%) is used simply to digest the foods they eat. Therefore, if it takes 100 grams of energy (bear with me for using such basic terminology here) to digest each and every meal you eat during the day, but by improving the efficiency of your metabolism, we can get your body to digest each meal using only 50 grams of energy, then you could have nearly double the energy to put toward all your normal daily activities.

So if one of your main life goals is to make more money, would it beneficial to you if you had more physical energy to do the daily tasks necessary to build your financial streams? What about all the added mental energy that you would have to put towardcreatively designing new ways to handle all the daily challenges that every entrepreneur faces today?

Personally, I never had success in my life until I took control of my body. I remember feeling like a failure in everything I did. I remember not even wanting to go out of the house because I didn't like the way I looked, in fact, I specifically remember not wanting to leave the house even to go to the store to buy food because I hated the way I looked in all of my clothes.

Today, I rarely think about the clothes I'm going to put on each day because I feel confident that, no matter what I wear, my body will make those clothes look good. All clothes just hang better on a body that's in shape. That means that guys who wear their shirts 'untucked' no longer HAVE to do that (unless they truly like that style) - and women who wear black because it's 'slimming' can now wear any color they like - because their BODY will make that color look good on them.

This is the way everyone should feel! When I finally took charge of my physique, everything in my life got better - my social life improved, my health improved, my family life improved, my spiritual life improved, and my financial life skyrocketed. I went from feeling like nobody noticed me to being picked out in a crowd of people (the right people).

Here's a horrible fact that I regularly speak about in my teleseminars and live events; in today’s society, without a nice body, people subconsciously make life a bit harder for you. You see it all the time. People who are in good shape almost always get treated differently by others. Now I’m not saying that’s fair it’s absolutely not - but it’s a fact of life, so why not take advantage of it? You see, you can’t change the fact that most everybody else in the world seems to treat good-looking people better, but you can change the one person who really matters, and that’s you. You can make yourself as strong and healthy-looking as possible, making life easier for you and setting a good example for your family so that they can also live a more successful and healthy life.

Good looking people climb the corporate ladder faster, they portray more authority when they stand in front of their staff, they get more preferential treatment, and they have far more stamina to take on all the work that's necessary in order to build a powerful company or business.

There are eight people in my inner circle of friends, all of which own businesses which gross from $5 million to $700 million annually - the bigger the business, the more focus that owner puts on staying in top shape. These people aren't stupid, they don't want to grow a huge company then not be in good enough health to enjoy the rewards -- and the secret that all of these folks have is that being in good shape didn't start when they became successful - it started way before that - and probably had a lot to do with their success.

Things to do for your health and weight loss

I’m often asked what is the best diet, or the best food
program, best exercise program and which single best book to
recommend to improve your health, fitness or weight loss.

The answer is that there is no best way to do it. There is
no best book, and there is no right way or wrong way to do it.

The 5 Critical things you must do to achieve your health are
these

1. Continue to learn about health, fitness, nutrition and
weight loss from a wide variety of sources

The single most important thing to do right from the start is
to take action and begin learning about health, followed very
closely by putting what you learn into practice. We are a
very diversified bunch of people and what works for you may
not work for the next person. You have to find what works for
you from a wide variety of sources, expand your knowledge and
accept no one thing as being the best for your health. Keep
reading, keep learning and keep what works for you and discard
what doesn’t.

Knowledge isn’t power, but “knowledge in action is power!”

Some very simple things to keep in mind is that the body runs
on food and if you give it the best quality food, in whatever
manor that happens to be, then you’ll probably get some good
results in general. Keep the nutrition to a maximum by eating
as close to nature as possible, organic where possible and
eliminating processed foods and trans fats.

2. Find a mentor.

Someone who’s been there, done that and that you can model .

I realized at quite an early age that if we can model someone
who’s been there and done that and gotten results, then you
can “cut to the chase” as it were to find out what works for
your health and weight loss - what doesn’t and in doing so get
results faster.

Find a mentor, a role model for the things that you’re looking
for. If it’s weight loss or to improve your health, find
someone who’s walked in your footsteps and knows what you’re
going through. Model them. Do what they did, repeat their
process and contact them to ask what worked and what didn’t.
You can save yourself a lot of time and effort by doing what
works and skipping what doesn’t.

3. Apply the knowledge you learn about health on a daily
basis

This is where the taking action part comes in. You must begin
to apply the knowledge you’ve gained from what you’ve read
about health or watched and by talking with people who’ve been
there before you. If you do not put it into practice then
you’ve become an information junkie and not someone who
follows through on their knowledge. You must begin to work
the principles you’ve learned on a daily basis and keep at it.
Without the trial and error, you get nowhere fast and won’t
truly know what works and what doesn’t.

4. Repeat steps one, two and three

Remember, there is no right way or wrong way to lose weight,
improve your health or get what you want. You must continue
to learn and challenge what you’ve read. I’m told that what I
teach is wrong and I ask what were your results when you tried
it? Well, they didn’t try it and so I then ask “what right do
you have to tell me what I teach is wrong”. It may have
worked for me or for many people I coach including yourself,
but without trying it and challenging it, you won’t ever know.

Keep learning about health, keep reading, keep applying what
you’ve read and this new knowledge. Begin the process of
filtering for yourself what will and won’t work for you.
Remember this is about you, not me or the other guy, but what
will help you achieve your weight loss goals or your health.
This may very well be about applying certain fitness
principles that sound so controversy that you figure they
can’t possibly work. One of my favorite sayings is “believe
nothing I say, but I challenge you to prove me wrong”. My
intent is to have you try it.

When I first begun my journey to lose 300 pounds, I read one
book and I preached the principles like they were the gospel.
I was finally told to “shut up” and read something else, so I
took it upon myself to learn whatever I could about health and
weight loss. I began to apply my new knowledge daily, found
people who had used the info before and what they believed
about it, what worked for them for their health and then
discovered for myself what worked.

Finally, I discovered the ultimate secret to health and weight
loss.

5. Never give up.

It never ends. In the large scope of your life, the next 30,
40, 50 or more years, what is a few days if you happen to get
off track. Get right back on doing what you were doing, keep
learning, keep trying new things, go back to what worked when
it was working and keep up with your daily fitness routine.
Probably the single most important fact about exercise or
fitness is that our body is designed to move and we’ve gotten
away from that. We must do something on a daily basis to
exercise our body.

Never give up. Never lose sight of the health you want and
keep working towards your goal.
