My Weight Loss Diary While on The Paleo Diet

by Jessica

Although this is being published after I had hit my target weight, the times and weights have not been altered.

The reason for this is that it was my very own personal diary, even before ItsTimeToBurn.com existed. I didn’t want anyone to really see it – particularly in public on the internet!!I can also provide commentary retrospectively to give advice and inspiration.

My first bit of advice is set realistic goals. By all means look at your weight now, and consider yor ULTIMATE goal, but don’t set your ultimate goal for next week! Realize it might take 8 weeks, 4 months, 6 months or even a year! Getting your head around this is in my opinion THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP!

Do not look to lose any more than 2 Lbs per week, no matter how much you crave it. The health risks far outweigh the feeling of looking good. Please understand this. If more than 2 lbs happens, it happens.

The next bit of advice is to do what I did – start a diary. It provides motivation, and inspiration. By being concious of everything you eat, and any exercise you take, you tend to be more careful. Although my personal weight loss diary was done daily (including weighing myself), I soon learned that while recording what you eat should be done every day, recording your weight should only be done weekly at most. I’ve included the first week of my weight loss results to show you how weight can vary on a daily basis, causing you to lose motivation.

Finally, every single person on this planet is different. While my weight loss progress was sometimes fast, and sometimes slow, yours could be completely different. I had a LOT of weight to lose, so for overweight people, it will fall off much quicker than if you are already in good shape and looking to shift your love handles!

Remember that habits take around 3 weeks to develop. It will be hard work for this time, but once you are in a routine, you can concentrate on enjoying life, and feeling great!

So without further ado, here is my diary, starting from my heaviest weight of 278 Lbs in October 2008. My initial weight loss goal was to hit 170 Lbs!

October 6, 2008 - Starting Weight 278 Lbs
October 7, 2008 – 277.7 Lbs
Ovtober 8, 2008 – 279Lbs
October 10, 2008 – 278 Lbs
October 11, 2008 – 277 Lbs
October 12, 2008 – 276.3 Lbs
October 13, 2008 – 275.4 Lbs

So you can see here, that weight went up and down. I ate healthy food, with smaller portions yet my went up. This can cause lack of motivation and people will often say “This isn’t working for me, I’m giving up!”. But over the period of the entire week, I lose just over 3 Lbs!

Although I continued to record daily for about another 3 weeks, I have only included the end of the week results. The above was purely an example of why you shouldn’t record daily.
October 20, 2008 – 273.9 Lbs
October 27, 2008 – 272 Lbs
November 3, 2008 – 271.1 Lbs
November 10, 2008 – 268.3 Lbs
November 17, 2008 – 268.1 Lbs
November 24, 2008 – 266.7 Lbs
December 1, 2008 – 265 Lbs
December 8, 2008 – 264.3 Lbs
December 15, 2008 – No entry in diary
December 22, 2008 – 259.9 Lbs
December 29, 2008 – 260.3 Lbs (Ouch, but it was Christmas!)
January 5, 2009 – 259.2 Lbs
January 12, 2009 – 256.6 Lbs
January 19, 2009 – 255.3 Lbs

At this point, the motivation and routine were there. I have noted in my diary that at this point I started walking in the evenings for 20-30 mins. I continued to lose on average 1.7-1.9 Lbs per week with some ups and downs, but by September 2009 I WAS UNDER THE 200 Lbs mark!!!!!!
September 7, 2009 – 199.8 Lbs – Oh Yeah! Under 200 Lbs!
September 14, 2009 – 196.9 Lbs
September 21, 2009 – 196.1 Lbs
September 28, 2009 – 194.4 Lbs
October 5, 2009 – 193.8 Lbs
October 12, 2009 – 192.8 Lbs
October 19, 2009 – 193.2 Lbs (Up a little, but this was OK…this was 12 months into it. I barely even considered I was ‘trying’ to lose weight…I was just LIVING!)
October 26, 2009 – 192.4 Lbs
November 2, 2009 – No entry in diary
November 9, 2009 – 190.2 Lbs
November 16, 2009 – 188.9 Lbs
November 23, 2009 – 188.8 Lbs (Huh?)
November 30, 2009 – 187.1 Lbs
December 7, 2009 – 186 Lbs
December 14, 2009 – 185.3 Lbs
December 21, 2009 – 185 Lbs
December 28, 2009 – 186.3 Lbs (Judging by the food I ate, I had a GOOD time!)

January 4, 2010 – 184.5 Lbs (Back on track, the binge at Christmas and rest from exercise helped me get past my plateau – a good lesson)
January 11, 2010 – 182.4 Lbs
January 18, 2010 – 180.1 Lbs (AHHH, nearly below 180!! So close!)
January 25, 2010 – 179.9 Lbs

Only just, but I’m under the mark! I still remember this weigh in, I was pretty excited as I knew I was on my final stretch to my original goal…although I was considering changing it. I upped my exercise levels too at this point, incorporating jogging and going to gym classes with friends. During this week, I went for a jog twice, but didn’t start the gym classes until the following week.
Febuary 1, 2010 – 177.5 Lbs
Febuary 8, 2010 – No entry in diary
Febuary 15, 2010 – 175.7 Lbs
Febuary 22, 2010 – 174.2 Lbs
March 1, 2010 – 173.6 Lbs
March 8, 2010 – 172.8 Lbs
March 15, 2010 – 170.9 Lbs (SO CLOSE!)

March 15, 2010 – 169.8 Lbs (SUCCESS!!!!!)

I continued living my life as I had done, incorporating exercise 3-4 times a week, and eating my mostly Paleo diet based food. My weight finally settled around 6 months later. I am 134 lbs, which I’m so happy with. It’s turned me into a different person.

As you can see, it’s taken me nearly 1.5 years to reach success. Could I have lost weight quicker – probably, but as I’ve said before: it’s not healthy!
